Official Course Description
Ethical and legal issues regarding the analysis of sexual and relationship behaviors require special considerations for behavior analysts. This course utilizes the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® 5th Edition Task List, the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts (BACB, 2016), the RBT Ethics Code (BACB, 2018), and the Code of Ethics & Conduct for AASECT Certified Members (AASECT, 2014) to equip professionals to build competency across codes and in addressing ethical dilemmas. The course will focus on, Reconciling Multiple Ethics Codes, Ethics and the Law, Diversity & Multicultural Issues, and Ethical and Professional Conduct.
This course meets the requirements for 10 BACB Ethics Learning CEs. This course also meets the requirements for 10 Type C SET hours (Ethical Issues in Sexuality Education) for those in pursuit of AASECT certification in sex education. This course does not in any way provide certification, and solely meets educational requirements of outside certification boards.
Course Learning Outcomes
- By the end of this course, participants will be able to discriminate between the BACB ethics code, the RBT ethics code, the AASECT ethics code, and their local laws.
- By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe their local sexual behavior laws and how they should guide practice.
- By the end of this course, participants will be able to evaluate and resolve ethical dilemmas as they pertain to sexual behavior analysis and intervention, in accordance with all codes to which they are beholden.
- By the end of this course, participants will be able to evaluate the impact of diverse cultural contingencies on the analysis of sexual behavior and relationship behavior, and will be able to demonstrate acting from a stance of cultural humility in accordance with all ethical codes.
Synchronous attendance is required, as is outside homework for two brief case study papers and a capstone paper. A grade of B or better is required for passing and provision of continuing education.
